Financial pressures are a cause of fear and stress for millions of Australian households during this period of global price inflation. Whilst we cannot fix the global economy on our own, there are things you can do to help yourself and your family to cope with the burden of financial stress.
Taking care of your own wellbeing
When facing the pain of financial stress, it’s easy to forget to take care yourself. It is important to spend time doing things fulfilling to and take care of your health, after all you cannot work due to health concerns caused by stress and a disregard for your health you cannot support yourself.

Budgeting
One of the most direct ways to combat financial stress is to plan your expenses, by planning your expenses otherwise known as “budgeting” you can more clearly see your income and expenses and prioritise the most important expenses and maybe even cut out some unnecessary expenses you didn’t realise you were paying for.
Gambling and betting
For many gambling and betting are fun activities with friends, but it can get out of hand and become a cause of distress and begin to dictate our behaviour. According to the AIHW 2 in 5 Australian’s gamble on a weekly basis in 2022 source: Community Attitudes Survey (Australian Gambling Research Centre, 2023).
